Taranaki Whānui E Tū
"What is your vision for our people?"
We believe now is the time for change. A time for Taranaki Whānui to “E Tū” (Stand Up) and move forward together.
It has been seven years since the establishment of Port Nicholson Block Settlement Trust (PNBST) and still, our members are disconnected from our tūrangawaewae (our place to stand). The financial weakness of the Trust has been revealed. Its continuing poor performance has resulted in year-on-year losses, without benefit to members for the last seven years.
As members of Taranaki Whānui, we stand and uphold the identity and values of our tupuna. In order to achieve this, it is our firm commitment to breathe new life and spirit into the governance and management of our Trust, for the benefit of all our people.
We have been active on behalf of our whānau in a number of ways, creating a groundswell of interest and support from within Taranaki Whānui.
As the māngai (spokespersons) for our whānau, we highlighted the numerous process failures in the proposed sale of Shelly Bay, such as:
Our actions ensured the voices of our whānau were heard, which led to the Trust:

- Lack of true consultation
- Poor communication
- Defunct membership register.
Our actions ensured the voices of our whānau were heard, which led to the Trust:
- organising five hui with members
- publishing a well overdue pānui, “Te Kawekawea”
- reviewing the members’ database and re-establishing the whakapapa komiti.
